Welcome

Due to the uncertainty with the global Covid-19 pandemic situation, in consultation with the Portuguese Chemical Society, the University of Evora and the General Directorate for Health (Portugal), the organizing committee for ISySyCat21 has opted to go-ahead with the conference BUT, as a mixed conference, in person (with a limited number of participants) and on-line (webinar). See below for further information, such as registration fees and the new program.
For your comfort and peace-of-mind you are advised before you travel to Portugal to check the latest regulations in place as regards COVID-19

It is a great pleasure to invite you to take part in the fourth edition of the International Symposium on Synthesis and Catalysis 2021 (ISySyCat2021) taking place at the University of Evora in the historically recognized mediaeval city of Evora from August 31st to September 3rd 2021. The city of Evora besides its striking beauty, uniqueness and hospitality is steeped in history having been the home to the Romans, the Moors, Visigoth's and others, including kings of Portugal. It has a coveted UNESCO world heritage stamp, and this walled city is the location of a Roman temple, and several palaces and exotic cathedrals. The conference will take place in the original part of the University known as Colégio Espirito Santo which dates back to the 16th Century.

The conference will focus on key topics in contemporary organic, organometallic, polymer synthesis and catalysis, which are of relevance to both academic and industrial chemists alike. This is reflected in the topics that will be discussed in the plenary lectures. Generally speaking, ISySyCat focuses strongly on chemical synthesis with catalysis as one of the key enablers. Like always, we anticipate a good mix of participants from academia and industry. This is reflected in the list of plenary speakers that hail from both academia and industry from all over the world. We are eagerly looking forward to seeing you in Evora in September 2021.

    Scientific Program

The conference will be organized into 14 plenary lectures (45 min. each), delivered by a series of internationally recognized speakers from academia and industry (at the conference venue and via zoom), over 25 short talks (selected from the submitted abstracts by the scientific committee and given at the venue and via zoom), multiple flash talks (each selected from the submitted abstracts by the scientific committee, given at the venue and via zoom) and two poster sessions (at the venue and transmitted via zoom). There will be prizes for the best communications.

The poster sessions will be divided into three distinct categories; Synthetic Methodology, Catalysis, total or target based synthesis. The scientific committee will select the best posters from each category, and a prize will be awarded to the first author.
For the in person poster presenters, they will be expected to place their poster in their attributed space by lunch-time on the 31st of August and remove them by the coffee break on the last day (3rd of September).

Those who will be presenting oral communications should send their power-point presentations to the organizing committee via email about 3-4 days from the start of the conference.

On-line participants can present oral, flash and poster presentations. More information will be given shortly on the on-line poster presentation format and procedure.

For the on-line poster presentations, the presenter will need to record a short 2 minute video (Max) with their poster presentation (ideally using powerpoint) which will be uploaded to YouTube. Only one poster presentation per participant will be allowed.

Those who arrive on the 30th of August can register in the evening of the 30th of August from around 4 pm onwards (till about 7 pm). We recommend this to avoid queuing on the following day.
The venue will be clearly sign-posted. When at the conference venue, all in person participants will be expected to follow the health and safety guidelines (based on the most updated information issued by the General Directorate for Health -Portugal) that we will be sent to all in person participants before the start of the conference.
